Anything by Hitchcock. Especially 'Rear Window.' Also, of course, 'The Wizard of Oz.'

If you're getting into older films, start watching the classics. Cassablanca, North By North West, etc. You will be able to appreciate the parodies that much more, and after watching a few black-and-white classics, you can almost spot the exact moment that Hollywood sold its dignity.

Don't forget the 1955 sureal/noir classic ,"Night of the Hunter" that's almost as twisted as any Lynch Film Robert Mitchum plays one of the greatist screen villans in history who's as dementedly funny as He is terrifying. It's a must see!

Gone with the Wind, any Hitchcock, but espically Psycho and North by Northwest, any David Lean films, Citizen Kane and The Third Man both with Orson Welles are all classics.

Double Indemnity and you should also try and see the original Breathless as opposed from the richard Gere 80's remake.

Take a look at the original King Kong. It's art direction is so classical and yet works so well to this day. Really holds up and much better that the '76 version.

Hey Generic - good to see somebody else out there has actually seen the great Double Indemnity. It's one of the classics that not that many people have seen.
As close as it gets to perfection IMHO.
